Alaska’s Lake Monster ‘Illie’ Identified?

Although Nessie has become arguably the world’s most popular lake monster, many other lakes around the world have their own legends and sightings. Lake Illiamna in Alaska’s southwest region is just one of those lakes with an unidentified creature affectionately nicknamed ‘Illie’.

The 80 mile long, 22 mile wide lake on the north end of the Alaska Peninsula started receiving sighting reports in the 1940′s when pilots called in a large creature coming to the surface large enough to be visible from high altitudes of flight.

Within the first three decades of reports, so many sightings had been reported of a dark aluminum colored creature approximately 30 feet long, that a local newspaper offered a $100,000 reward to anyone able to provide evidence of the creature’s existence, however, no one stepped forward in the allotted time frame.

Now, a local biologist and senior scientist by the name of Bruce Wright says he believes the creature to be nothing more than a sleeper shark. Where he even begins to question himself is that while the description of the creatures observed to seem to match a sleeper shark, no one knows if they can survive in fresh water and the behavior of the animal coming to the surface during daylight does not match typical sleeper shark habits.

On the other hand, the animals have been found in inlets of Alaska (see video below) and could have ended up when it was still once a part of the ocean itself. While it all still remains a mystery, Wright now vows to locate and identify the creature and then move on to Nessie herself in Scotland and put that legend to rest once and for all.

Strange Creature Found on Beach

A strange alien-like creature was discovered on the shores of Panama by 4 teenagers who claimed this horrifying beast came out of the water and started to attack them. The 4 kids attacked back with sticks fending for their lives. They managed to kill the disturbing creature and snapped a photo of it before retreating back to the city.

They went to the local news station where they told their story and shared the picture of the dangerous creature. The story appeared on TV and was a hot topic around the internet before speculation arose.

Where did it come from? Was this alien beast real? The answer is? No.The creature was later identified as a dead sloth. The sloth had already started to decompose and had lost all of it's hair making its skin appear leather and smooth.

This isn't the first story that has taken the internet by storm. The story of a strange creature called the "Montauk Monster" that washed up on the shores of East Coast USA has left many to wonder just what types of strange animals remain undiscovered on our planet and beyond.

First pictures from the 'Baltic Sea UFO', June 15, 2012

The Ocean X Team dove down to the circle-shaped object in the Baltic Sea and met something they never experienced before. First they thought it was just stone or a rock cliff, but after further observations the object appeared more as a huge mushroom, rising 3-4 meters/10-13 feet from the seabed, with rounded sides and rugged edges.

The object had an egg shaped hole leading into it from the top, as an opening. On top of the object they also found strange stone circle formations, almost looking like small fireplaces. The stones were covered in something resembling soot.

"During my 20-year diving career, including 6000 dives, I have never seen anything like this. Normally stones don't burn. I can't explain what we saw, and I went down there to answer questions, but I came up with even more questions ", says Stefan Hogeborn, one of the divers at Ocean X Team.

The path to the object itself can be described as a runway or a downhill path that is flattened at the seabed with the object at the end of it.

"First we thought this was only stone, but this is something else. And since no volcanic activity has ever been reported in the Baltic Sea the find becomes even stranger. As laymen we can only speculate how this is made by nature, but this is the strangest thing I have ever experienced as a professional diver", continues Peter Lindberg, one of the founder Ocean X Team.

Right now, scientists are examining samples from the circle-shaped object, and experts in sonar imaging are processing data from the ship to hopefully shed more light over the mysterious object.

Australia to create biggest marine reserve

The Australian government has announced the creation of the world's biggest network of marine parks, covering an overall area the size of India. But, some people say it does not go far enough.

Creating the largest global network of marine protected areas in Australia

Australia announced the creation of the largest global network of marine protected areas, covering a 1.7 million square kilometers of ocean near the coast. The measure is aimed at the conservation of marine life and limiting the possibilities of oil and natural gas.

The environment minister of Australia, Tony Burke, said the plan was similar to creating a network of marine national parks. The measure has met with objections from oil companies and natural gas, and fisheries. The initiative was announced days before the celebration in Rio de Janeiro of a major UN summit on sustainable development.

Video: Shark devouring a giant squid

Al McGlashan stab fishing with his boat in southeastern Australia when he ran into a really unusual scene: a shark devouring a giant squid. It was the corpse of a young cephalopod four meters unexpected feast that served a copy of blue shark.

An unusual encounter that was picked up by the watchful camera of the journalist from the Daily Telegraph. After seeing the pictures I've been bitten by curiosity and, remembering the old films of Harryhausen monsters, I have wondered how the battle would have been if the giant squid had been alive ...

What would an actual encounter between a shark and a giant squid? To answer this question I have chosen to contact Juan Ignacio Pérez, Professor at the UPV / EHU and one of the most interesting popularizers of nature that you can find online. We answer the physiologist who, at first glance, the fight might seem balanced, but appearances are deceiving.

Conflicts between sharks and giant squid are quite scarce since they live in very different depths. Keep in mind that the giant squid live even below 3,000 meters, a depth unattainable for sharks. Even so, ignoring the difference in areas where they live each other, the size is the question on this issue.

An adult giant squid reaches about 12 meters, with a size and a shark has nothing to do even more likely is that the shark end up becoming the prey of the squid. In nature, size does matter and only a few can cope with these giant squid.

This is the case of sperm whales who do have between your diet thanks to its large size and also the possibility to dive to great depths and hunt using their echolocation system.
